Porn: Your Scientific Path to Freedom
Last week we had an amazing interview with alumni Arkansas Razorback linebacker, Ted Shimer. Ted is the Founder of The Freedom Fight, an online porn addiction recovery program, and the author of the book, The Freedom Fight: The New Drug and the Truths that Set Us Free, which is our topic for today.
You may be saying, “Oh man, another porn guy! Haven’t we heard enough on this topic?!”
Of all the men we have interviewed who help men find freedom from porn, Ted’s book is my favorite. Not to discount our other great guests, but Ted’s book got to the root of the struggle. By “root” I mean the cause.
Here are the six roots (or causes) of a pornography problem:
Root 1: Sexualized Society (temptation is everywhere)
Root 2: The Addicted Brain (brain changed by porn)
Root 3: Isolation (“The opposite of addiction is not sobriety. It is connectedness.”)
Root 4: Negative Emotions
Root 5: Shame. (He spent THREE chapters unpacking shame.)
Root 6: Trauma
Can you identify with one of these six roots that trigger your temptation to sin? I know I can. We had an amazing interview and plan on bringing Ted back on the show soon to dive deeper into these roots, especially shame. Check out our interview here.
